On Thursday, May 13th, we rolled out the Hot Pink Carpet for regular clients and invited guests. The response was overwhelming!! The guest list had to be closed. We took pictures before the event and a few minutes into the event. We did not even think to take pictures of the crowds since all of us were so busy!!
The event included a wine and cupcake pairing, chocolate tasting, free makeovers, skin consultations, raffle drawings, and swag bags for the guests.

I am grateful to my clientele. I am very blessed that I do not have to advertise in this economy. I thought about it then after the RSVP started to roll in,and I decided against it. Glad I did not advertise it. Here are some pics right before we opened. Hope you all enjoy them.

Hilton Bayfront San Diego Photos

Hilton has a new bayfront hotel located in downtown San Diego. It is right across the street from the San Diego Convention center and Petco Park and walking distance to the Gaslamp district. They are currently building a walkway bridge from the hotel to Petco Park.

Pros:

End rooms have two views-downtown and the bay
Food is great
Starbucks storefront located in the hotel
great location
great views
gym is modern and has a great view of their infinity pool.
Pets allowed (daily fee)

Cons:

Internet and parking is pricey.

If you are a Hilton Honors member, you will be given vouchers for each guest and each day you are staying. The vouchers include free Starbucks breakfast or $10.00 for the breakfast buffet @ Vela's (regular price is $50.00 ), free appetizers @ OddySea, and discounts for their spa.

I visited their Spa called Aquazul Spa. The decor is contemporary modern with of course, an ocean theme. The facial was unimpressive. The esthetician did not analyze my skin. She said I did not need extractions...really? The products they used is called "Phytomer". An marine plant based line from France. I have worked with this product before and was not impressed.

The massage however, was wonderful. You have a choice of scents of heated oil.

This hotel is great for a quick getaway, a staycation if you will. If you are reading this and you are from out of town, I greatly recommend this hotel in regards to location. Almost every part of the hotel lobby, gym, and restaurants boasts of wall to ceiling glass to open up to the bayfront views!! Enjoy the pictures!!

TEMECULA BRAZILIAN WAX CLIENT NIGHTMARE

Clemance is her name. A name unfortunately, I will never forget. She came in for a waxing service and did not pay for services rendered. She came in once before. When she called the first time, she asked if I took personal checks. I informed her that I only accepted cash, debit, and credit cards. She paid the first time with cash.
The second time she called, she made an appointment and never showed up. The third time she called to make an appointment, she apologized for not showing up because "her uncle had passed away."
At the end of her appointment, as she was reaching in her purse, I got this very sick feeling in my stomach that something bad was about to happen.....always trust your gut instinct!! She pulls out her checkbook. I looked at her in amazement and said, "Clemance, you know I don't take checks." She made a HUGE deal in front of her two children. She said she would return with the money since she conveniently did not have ANY credit cards or debit cards.
In conclusion, she never came back with the money. She would not take my phone calls and would only text me of why she could not come.....her child had an emergency, her GPS broke, and any other lie she could think of. Unfortunately, after her telling her I would call the police, I was forced to call them. They took the report and she now is on alert. I have informed other salons in the area of this scheming woman. It is sad to say that she is teaching her children that stealing and lying is acceptable behavior. If you know Clemance Joubran, and you are a business owner, she needs to pay up front IN CASH. I will count it as a lesson learned for me.
My clients are saying I should put her up on the "Wall of Shame"....that might be an idea... : )

This grocery store is located in Old Town Temecula. They have everything from ice cream, freshly made salsa, pastas, you name it. We bought chocolate chip cookie mix from the Good Cookie Company, and several cookies, and cream soda. The owners passion is to introduce and educate the public on a lifestyle that is common in most parts of the world except the United States.
The lifestyle consists of buying fresh groceries daily to several times a week to receive very fresh produce verses buying once a week in bulk. Most of the time, food goes bad, and it ends up being thrown out by the end of week.

Temecula Hills Wine Bar and Olive Oil Tasting

I was invited to a womens' networking event called "Girls Gone Grape," by Bonnie Clark. The network is held once a month at different wineries. This month it was at the Temecula Hills Winery @ Villa di Calabro in Old Town Temecula. The wine tasting consisted of sampling 8 wines (including one sparkling wine). It also included an Olive Oil tasting. My friend Jamie and I voted the garlic and the basil as the best. The company makes all their olive oil locally. It sells for $20 a bottle.
The property had a patio out back with a gazebo and a nice water fountain where the appetizers were displayed.

Cheap Seafood Restaurant -Murrieta

On Tuesday (July 28th) we had a couples night in a fairly new seafood restaurant called "Catch of the Day" Seafood Grill. It is located in the shopping center across the street from Sams Club where the Carls Jr is located, off of Murrieta Hot Springs Rd. The address is 40365 Murrieta Hot Springs Rd 92563. Phone number is (951) 677-6566. Kids eat free Wednesday nights from 4pm--9pm. **Restrictions apply. They are open from 11am-9pm. Mondays and Tuesdays 11am-3pm $1 Fish Tacos.
I ordered a grilled fish plate which included a choice of rice or fries, mixed vegetables or cole slaw, and bread for $6.99. The most expensive item on the menu is for $12.99. The Cajun seared Ahi salad is for $9.99.
Although the restaurant looks like a full service place, it is actually a walk up and order place. The menu offers everything from fried shrimp, to swordfish and everything in between. The picture is of three different tacos my husband ordered. I thought the cajun shrimp taco was the best. It is a casual place with flat screen tvs and plenty of booth seating. Breakfast Club in Menifee is a new restaurant located in the brand new shopping center Countryside Marketplace off Newport Rd.
The hours of this restaurant are not typical. 6am -2pm most days. It is a breakfast cafe serving ONLY breakfast food. Omelettes, eggs, pancakes, etc.
+ Positives

Freshly ground coffee with choice of regular or flavored creamers
Biscuits (they are so good!!)
Freshly squeezed juices
Eggs that can be made with egg whites

- Negatives

Air conditioning was not really working so it was HOT in there. They are working on it though. A couple behind us left because it was so hot.

I ordered the San Fransisco Omelette which had asparagus, mushrooms and onions. It comes with Hollandaise sauce but I asked to have it with salsa, which is also fresh. It was more like Pico de Gallo. It comes with potatoes. Which I ordered extra crispy but they came almost raw. By the time, the next batch came, all of us had finished our meal.

My husband ordered the BLT omelette. Basically, a BLT sandwiched between the omelette. Sounds weird, and it was weird. He said he was going to try something else next time.

Our friend who was visiting from out of town ordered the Mexican omelette or something similar to that name. He said it was pretty good.

Breakfast prices ran mid range. Omelettes varied in prices from $6.95-$9.95 range.

When you enter the restaurant, to your immediate left was a place to order coffees and espresso drinks to go.

Because I am looking at skin all day long, it is unfortunate to say that detecting skin cancer or pre cancerous lesions is not unusual for me. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US.
Melanoma is the 3rd most common and more dangerous. It is common especially in young people (ages 15-30).

In most recent studies, in 2007 more than 108,000 new cases of melanoma. Approximately 60-90% Melanoma caused by exposure to UV light or sunlight. Wear sunscreen.

-Two types of sunscreen.
-Chemical-ingredients- # UVA chemical sunblock sunscreen ingredients Avobenzone, Parsol 1789
# Dioxybenzone, UVB, UVAII
# Ecamsule
# Menthyl Anthranilate
# Meradimate
# Oxybenzone, benzophenone, benzophenone-3
# Sulisobenzone, UVB, UVAII

Chemical ingredients are absorbed by the skin and sunlight is invalid upon contact. Chemical based sunscreen are suitable for swimming or water contact. Sensitive skin types and young children should avoid this sunscreen.
-Physical
This sunscreen is mineral based. The main ingredients are titanium dioxide and iron oxide, and zinc oxide. This type of sunscreen is not absorbed by the skin. It stays on top of the skin reflecting the sunlight off the skin, similar to what aluminum foil does when light hits it. This is a safer sunscreen for children and people with skin sensitivities.

WHY DID I GET BURNED IF I STILL PUT ON SUNSCREEN?

Because it takes the ingredients in the sunscreen up to a half an hour to work with the skin to form that shield. Most people put the sunscreen on when they are already sitting in the sun. So even though they put the sunscreen on, the first half hour, they are virtually unprotected. On most sunscreen labels, it says to reapply every two hours. What this really means is to put it on every 90 minutes so when the last half hour of the first application is wearing off, you put on the new application. This gives the new application 30 minutes to work.

The darker the skin, the more melanin they produce. Everyone needs sun protection.

We carry sunscreens that are oil free, oil absorbing, and have a matte finish. They contain "micro-sponges" that break open when extra sebum is produced, absorbing the excess oil.

I WORK OUT AND THE SUNSCREEN STINGS WHEN IT GETS INTO MY EYES, WHEN I SWEAT.
Disposable wipes that are soaked in alcohol free, oil free sun block solution are great for those on the run.

MY SKIN IS SO SENSITIVE, I BREAK OUT WITH ALL TYPES OF SUNSCREEN.

Ultra Sensitive sunblock is purely mineral based so it also has anti-inflammatory properties to tone down redness as well.

These products are high quality sunscreens that are not available at drug stores. These are usually available in places where a skin therapist works and can prescribe the best sunscreen for your skin type.

Mandalay Bay Hotel-Las Vegas-Charlie Palmer's Restaurant- Aureole

This is a picture of the famous Wine Tower located in Charlie Palmer's restaurant "Aureole" in the Mandalay Bay hotel. I was there for the International Esthetics Conference. If you order a bottle of wine, the wait staff will holster themselves and go up to retrieve your bottle of wine. This is a fine dining establishment. The entrees are in the $25-50 range. He does also offer a "Prixe Fix" menu for $55 dollars which includes a choice of soup/salad, entree, and dessert.

My husband and I both ordered fish and it was cooked absolutely perfect!! I ordered the Tasmanian trout (which looked like Salmon) and my husband ordered the Halibut. Both were accompanied by Risotto. Also, if you are a wine aficionado, the waiter recommended a wine that was amazing!!! It was a very light white wine. The name of the wine is called "Palmina".
This is not a place for children. Dinner for the both of us was over two hundred dollars (and I ordered from the Prixe Fix menu, my husband did not. If you can go, GO!!!

Bangkok Noodle Shop-Ceasars Palace-Las Vegas

We were in the mood for Chinese food so we found this restaurant as we were walking through Ceasars Palace. We ordered seafood fried rice, egg flower and tomato soup, stir fried veggies, and Black Pepper Chicken. This is no P.F Changs so the chicken meat was all dark meat. It was pretty good but the atmosphere was more interesting. It was amazing that the fish tanks were immaculate and spotless. They clean the tanks EVERY NIGHT. Dinner for two was about $75 bucks. You know Vegas...on the strip is outrageous....

Epcot Center-Orlando Florida

We visited Orlando for a few days to visit friends. Since we already have Disneyland here, we decided to go to the Epcot center in Orlando, Florida. It was pretty interesting. It is a place that I could say I have been to but would not go again. From someone who has traveled the world, I found this place to be a let down. It is basically a park segmented into different countries of the world. In each country, there are buildings that look like the architectural design of France, Great Britain, Germany, China, Japan,Mexico, Australia, etc. In these buildings houses one sit down restaurant, one walk up restaurant, and a gift shop filled with tourist gadgets an trinkets from that country. If you are a seasoned traveler, this might now be the place for you. IF you have never seen anything outside of the US, it is an amusement park. Not suitable for young children....they might get bored really fast. Pretty interesting for kids 10 and older.

Santa Rosa Plateau-Wildomar,Ca

Who would have thought that you could see this much open space in Southern California? If you live near the Temecula, Murrieta, Wildomar, Menifee, Lake Elsinore areas, you can get to this place pretty quick. Take the 15 Freeway and get off on Clinton Keith Rd. You will head west until you it starts to go up the mountain and the road starts to wind up into the hills.
You will be in the La Cresta area. You will finally see signs on where to park. The admission is three dollars per person. You will receive a map of all the hiking trails...and believe me, there are many hiking trails up there. The views are unbelievable!!
You don't need hiking shoes, if you don't have them, tennis shoes are sufficient.
In a time where we are now overstimulated with technology, it is amazing how the sounds of birds flying overhead, wind rustling through the trees,and your own footsteps will calm your spirit. Head on out there!!

I went to a network meeting today...it's amazing how many people seem so amazed and shocked when they find out what I do. Before I branched off and went into business for myself, I used to joke with my coworkers that judging from how busy I was, no one had hair down there but no one was willing to admit it. So when I go to different events, it seems no one takes part in the service when I know full well, it's more people than anyone thinks....except Brazilian waxers.
Women of all shapes, sizes, ages, ethnic background, socioeconomic status, and educational backgrounds have this done. It is not the typical young, model type woman. In my experience, the more average looking she is, the more likely she has done this.
Behind closed doors, I have heard all sorts of horror stories and seen all sorts of (ahem) botched jobs due to another waxer or the result of a "trying to save money and did it at home" job. Trust me. ladies...some things should be left to a professional. I have seen some pretty painful results. Gourmet Cupcakes in Murrieta,Ca

A new bake shop has arrived in town. The name of the shop is called Truly, Madly, Sweetly Bake Shop. They specialize in gourmet cupcakes and mini cheesecakes. They also have lemon bar and cheesecake "cookies" (really, they are lemon bars and cheesecake bars).
The chocolate cheesecakes are to die for!! The Black Out cupcake is all chocolate. The Strawberry Hill cupcake is a dark chocolate cupcake topped with a strawberry buttercream frosting. Growing up on Asian and European baked goods, I found the frosting a bit too much and too sweet. If any of you are frosting freaks, you might like this.
My favorite is the Lemon Bar cookie. It has a great balance of tartness and sweetness.
The mother-in-law and sister-in-law team have a wonderful cute shop. Cathryn Howard is the pastry chef and Mercediz Howard is the sales manager, usually in the front of the house.

Dining at D' Canters in Wildomar

D'Canters is a wine bar and grill located in the Shoppes at Bear Creek in Wildomar , California. It is right off the 15 freeway off of Clinton Keith Road.

The restaurant has a wide variety of wines and beers. This restaurant is perfect for dates, special occasions, and quiet dinners. They also have an area where they can accommodate fairly large parties. D'Canters also provides live music on Friday and Saturdays evenings.

Atmosphere:

Dimly lit. Dark, rich colors are used throughout. Patio seating is available. Separate bar and restaurant seating is available. Not a large restaurant.

Menu:
Like most wine bar restaurants, the food is created to compliment the wines. The menu carries a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, main entrees and of course, desserts. The server also will inform you of the specials.

The Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing was not too heavily tossed in with the salad. Just enough on the romaine to bring out the taste. Fresh ground pepper is offered. The croutons tasted like they were home made. I say this because some of the croutons were heavily buttered.

I ordered one of the specials. It was a crab stuffed sole accompanied with asparagus, and wild rice pilaf. The crab stuffing was a tad bit too salty. The asparagus was perfectly done. A slight crisp but not underdone or overdone.

My husband ordered caribou. He was curious how it would taste. The caribou came with a red wine reduction along with mashed potatoes and asparagus. He was not to pleased with the texture. The texture seemed a bit "too mushy" for my husband's taste. After my husband gave a less than enthusiastic response for the caribou, she offered to take it back and order something else. After much prodding, my husband finally ordered the sirloin steak. This was the other special which he gave a "thumbs up".

Dessert: The dessert we ordered was FANTASTIC!! We ordered the chocolate raspberry bread pudding. I am not much for bread pudding but the server highly recommended this. It tasted like cake!! If you love chocolate with the hint of raspberry tartness, this is for you!! It is heavenly with the vanilla bean ice cream.

Downside:
No espresso/cappuccino-but our server offered to run to the Starbucks across the way..: * )

Entrees are in the 15-25 dollar range.

Christmas time at the Mission Inn

I am still in the process of finding out what events happen in the IE. Apparently, visiting the Mission Inn for the Festival of the Lights is one of them. These pictures are on opening night. The crowds were milling about in and out of the shops at Mission Inn, as the warm scent of vanilla Cinnamon roasted almonds floated in the air. It is a great place to take out of town guests/family. Also, about one block down, at the Riverside Convention Center, you may want to visit the display of Christmas trees decorated by different companies to raise money for Charity.

Having afternoon tea is definitely a "girl thing". This tradition started in England as a light meal between lunch and supper. Afternoon tea or "High Tea" consists of finger sandwiches (typically cucumber , watercress, smoked salmon, egg salad, tuna salad etc), scones, and an assortment of desserts such as mini chocolate eclairs, petite fours, small fruit tarts, and cookies.
This was held at the Grand Del Mar hotel nestled in the hills of Carmel Valley.
I have attended many afternoon teas and the one item that stands out is their homemade sugar cookies. They literally melt in your mouth!!
The hotel lobby was decorated absolutely beautifully! If you are thinking about going, the adult tea is $36 and child tea is $14.95. Not exactly cheap but a nice thing to do with girlfriends .
The child's "tea" offers an alternative to tea such as hot cocoa or hot apple cider. The sandwiches are kid friendly such as PB and J, cheese sandwich, and tuna salad.

Driving Behind a Smoker

I don't know what it is with smokers. Today I was driving behind two different smokers and BOTH TIMES, they threw their cigarettes out the window. I wanted to get out of my car, throw the cigarette back in their car, and say,"I think you dropped this." Not only are they polluting the air we all breathe but polluting our streets as well. If they are throwing their cigarettes out of their car because they don't want it in their car, what make them think we want it all over the streets, the parking lots, and anywhere else that is public? Cigarette butts are trash and trash belongs in the trash can....Thank you!!

Moving from the OC to the IE

Having had moved from the OC to the IE, I discovered some sub-culture differences. Driving around, I noticed that instead of the steady stream of Mercedes, Lexus,Land Rovers,and Porsches, the four-wheeled status symbol was the lifted pick up truck with all the bells and whistles. The man driving the truck was not the ultra polished metro male but the shaved head male spotting a goatee, wearing a wife beater t-shirt. Of course, a few tattoos to complete the look. For his arm candy was not the Lois Vuitton toting brand conscious, just -stepped -out of- the- salon babe, but the platinum blonde, Coach-toting, plattform flip-flop wearing dame with heavy eye make up.
In my ignorance, I assumed the group I was speaking with was mostly college-educated, when in fact, none of them were. Everywhere I went, I was surrounded by college educated colleagues, friends, and acquaintances in the OC. Here, in the IE, the only people I know who have gone to college, so far, is my doctor and a few of my clients. NOT to say that there are no college educated people in the IE because I know there are, plenty of them.
It's just that they are not in my circle, as of yet. It seems there are a higher concentration of college educated people in the OC than in the IE. This is just another observation, not a put down by any means.
After living in the IE, I went back to visit my friends in the OC and asked my friend,"Has it always been this crowded here?" I guess humans get accustomed to whatever they see. I hadn't seen so many people in one spot for a long time. I definitely like the open space out in the IE compared to the living -on- top -of- each- other OC. I bought a house out here for the price of a nice condo in the OC....and haven't missed it yet....
